In rural Tanzania, twelve-year-old Frank’s life used to revolve around fetching water. Every day, he walked long distances to collect it from unsafe sources. The essential chore left time for little else—let alone his schoolwork. Not only did the water take him away from his studies, but it also often made him sick for several days a month because it was unclean. He fell behind in his classes and his grades suffered.
That all changed when his community gained access to clean, safe water close to Frank’s home. With the heavy chore of fetching water behind him, Frank focuses on his education and feels pride in his work. He’s healthy, attending class every day, and thriving in his studies.
“Now that I have more time to study, my grades are improving,” Frank said. “I feel proud, and my teachers are noticing too.”
