The Early Days

Lifewater International began in 1977 with a bold vision: to provide safe water as a tangible expression of God’s love. Driven by faith and a deep compassion for underserved communities, Lifewater’s early efforts equipped individuals with tools and training to develop sustainable water systems. Over time, our approach evolved to focus on the lasting transformation that comes from pairing clean water access with hygiene education and sanitation improvements.
Similarly, Water for Good was founded in 2004 with a mission to tackle water insecurity in the Central African Republic. By emphasizing collaboration, community ownership, and long-term sustainability, Water for Good has provided not just wells but systems that work—day after day, year after year.

Who We Are
A Merger of Missions
In 2024, Lifewater International and Water for Good joined forces, completing an official merger that combined decades of experience, innovation, and faith-driven service.
Together, we are creating an even stronger foundation to tackle the water crisis at scale. By merging Lifewater’s holistic water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) model and expertise with Water for Good’s proven success in locally-led, sustainable water system maintenance, we’re ensuring that every water point that we work on has a 90% functionality rate – and every project has an enduring impact.
Our unified approach is already seeing remarkable fruit. Communities that have completed the three-year “Vision of a Healthy Village” process have a median reduction in childhood diarrhea by 90%.
Ultimately, this union allows us to be even better stewards of the resources entrusted to us, achieving $3 million in annual savings that we send directly back to the field. By moving more of our leadership and resources closer to the communities we walk alongside, we can now bring hope and health to an additional 50,000 people every year.

Today, operating under the Water for Good name, we are humbled to provide reliable water services for over 1.3 million people annually across our programs in the Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Uganda and Tanzania. With a prayerful and strategic goal to double the impact by 2028, our work is fueled by a deep commitment to serving the most vulnerable as a tangible expression of God’s love.
We keep the heart and mission of each historic organization alive in the work we do and people we serve. Together, we are uniquely positioned to solve WASH challenges with sustainable solutions that change lives for generations to come. As a leader in the WASH sector, we are dedicated to sharing our innovative solutions with other organizations so that one day every community may thrive with safe water.
