In the quiet corners of Wat Village, Cambodia, instead of spending her time playing with friends, six-year-old Kimlien was caught in a cycle of sickness that kept her home. Coughs, fevers, and the flu were the silent, heavy tolls of unsafe water and a lack of basic hygiene.
Her mother dealt with the constant ache of worry as she navigated a fragile, exhausting life. In their home, health felt like a luxury they could not afford.
“Kimlien was often sick,” her mother recalled. “We went through many days of fever and weakness. It was very hard to see her like that.”
A Foundation of Knowledge
The change in Wat Village happened through a partnership built on dignity and education. To truly break the cycle, Kimlien’s mother and her neighbors needed the tools to protect their own families.
She joined our hygiene training to learn seven essential “healthy home” practices. This provided a practical roadmap to transformation. Step by step, she began to strip away the risks that had surrounded her children for years. She learned the vital importance of clean water storage, the dignity of proper sanitation, and the simple power of consistent hygiene.
“They taught us how to protect our children,” she explained. “Now our home is clean, our water is safe, and we understand how to prevent diseases.”

The Flow of New Life
Thanks to the support of our partners, a new water point was installed right in the heart of Wat Village. Safe, reliable water finally flowed just steps from Kimlien’s front door, ending a long season of dangerous uncertainty.
The impact was immediate. The illnesses that once riddled their home began to disappear. Kimlien regained her strength, finally having the energy to spend her afternoons playing jump rope and “Simon Says” with her friends.
“Now my children are healthy and strong,” her mother said with a smile. “We feel fresh and happy every day. Sickness is rare in our family now.”
Building What Lasts
Kimlien’s home has become a foundation of health, as well as her village. Her mother is no longer weighed down by the fight against preventable disease. She is looking toward a future filled with possibilities for all four of her children.
“Thank you for bringing good health to our family and village,” she said. “We wish all your work continues to succeed.”
Through your generosity, we did more than bring a pump to Wat Village. We brought time, health, and the strength of a mother who finally knows her children are safe. That future is already taking shape in the rhythm of daily life and in the sound of a little girl finally getting to be a kid.
