In Cambodia’s Varin district, hundreds of families now have the essentials they need for a healthier life.
In partnership with local churches in the area, 500 vulnerable households—including 14 ethnic minority families—received vital WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) materials they would not otherwise have access to. Each household received a tailored package based on need: underground latrine construction materials, above-ground latrine structures, a handwashing device, and/or a ceramic water filter.
In total, 2,250 individuals will be impacted with these essential resources. These simple tools offer lasting protection from disease and help children stay in school.
“I am so happy and excited,” said Hao, a 37-year-old mother of three. “Now, my children are safer and healthier. We no longer fear snakes or insects when going outside, and we finally have safe water to drink.”
Local Churches Lead the Way
Wherever we serve, Water for Good partners with local churches. Our work is rooted in faith, and we believe that true, lasting transformation happens when physical needs are met alongside spiritual ones. That’s why the local church plays such a vital role in how we serve. As trusted members of the community, church leaders and volunteers not only help implement solutions, they also share the hope of the Gospel in practical ways.
Many of the church members who supported this effort also live in underserved areas. Still, they offered their time and energy to help their neighbors. They constructed latrines, installed handwashing devices, cleaned household compounds, and taught basic hygiene practices to families and children.
As they served, they also shared the Gospel, offering spiritual encouragement alongside practical support. Their involvement made this more than a materials distribution effort. It became a way to build trust, restore dignity, and strengthen the community from within.
Toward 90% Healthy Homes
This work supports the Varin Program’s larger goal: helping 90% of households in the area achieve healthy home status. With strong local partnerships and the dedication of the church, that goal is increasingly within reach.
In a region where families often struggle to meet their basic needs, this project shows how collaboration, compassion, and faith can create meaningful change. Partnering with local churches is essential—not only to deliver clean water and sanitation, but to share the love of God in tangible, life-giving ways.
